Fathom Alternatives for Meetings That Aren't on Zoom

Dana sells commercial flooring, and Fathom has been good to her. Every Zoom call with a general contractor comes back with a summary before she's closed the laptop.

Then comes Thursday. The architect's office only uses Webex. The facilities manager rings her mobile. And the meeting that matters most, a walk-through on a half-finished hospital wing, has no link at all. By Friday she has three conversations and no notes. (Dana is a composite, but her week isn't unusual.)

Fathom is a strong notetaker for video calls, and its free plan is one of the most generous around. But if a real share of your meetings happen somewhere else, you need a Fathom alternative, or a second tool that covers the gaps.

This guide starts with exactly where Fathom stops, using Fathom's own help center. Then it walks through five alternatives sorted by the kind of meeting each one covers. Every vendor fact and price below was checked on the vendor's own site on October 2, 2026.

A disclosure: ParrotNotes publishes this blog and is one of the five. If most of your missed meetings happen across a table, you can try ParrotNotes free at your next one.

Where Fathom stops

Fathom's compatibility article says it works with "Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams" on Mac and Windows computers. The same article lists what it doesn't support: Chromebooks, Linux computers, "Phone calls such as Zoom phone calls", Teams group-chat instant meetings, webinars, breakout rooms, and tablets, iPads included.

One gap has closed recently. Fathom's iPhone app is now on the App Store, and the help center says it can "record in-person conversations". The listing needs iOS 18.6 or later, and Fathom's iOS app page doesn't mention an Android version. Many "Fathom alternatives" lists still describe in-person capture as a waitlist, so check the date on anything you read.

Do you need a Fathom alternative, or a second tool?

Switching costs you your call history and your team's habits. Before you cancel, answer four questions about last week's meetings:

  1. How many had no Zoom, Meet or Teams link? If it's one or two, a second tool for those is cheaper than a full move.
  2. Is anyone on Android? Fathom's in-person capture is iPhone only, so an Android team needs another app for the room.
  3. Do you meet on Webex, or on the phone? Those aren't on Fathom's supported list at all.
  4. Do meetings switch languages? Fathom transcribes 38 languages. If a customer moves between Spanish and English mid-meeting, test that before you commit.

If you answered "no" to everything, Fathom may still be the right tool. Our Fathom vs Fireflies comparison breaks down its plans and limits. If you answered "yes" to any, read on.

The 5 best Fathom alternatives, by meeting type

1. ParrotNotes: for meetings in a room, on any phone

ParrotNotes is built for the conversations Fathom was never designed around: the site visit, the client's office, the lunch meeting, the debrief in the car. There's no bot and no calendar link. You open the app on the phone you already carry, tap record and set it on the table.

When you stop, you get a transcript, a summary, the action items and a drafted follow-up email. It runs on iOS, Android and macOS, so a mixed iPhone and Android team uses one tool. Recording works offline, and the transcript and summary arrive once you're back online.

  • Languages: ParrotNotes Pro transcribes 99+ languages and can translate, so a customer can speak Spanish and you can read the transcript in English.
  • Sales frameworks: BANT, MEDDIC and SPIN on Free's 5 AI-powered recordings a month, and on every recording on Pro.
  • Free plan: 100 minutes of recording a month, an AI summary on every recording, and full AI insights on 5 recordings a month.
  • Pro: US$19.99 a month, or US$14.99 a month billed annually, with 3,000 minutes a month, recordings up to 3 hours, speaker identification, AI semantic search across notes, and MCP connectors.

2. Fireflies.ai: for Webex and other platforms

Fireflies' pricing page lists recording on "Zoom, Gmeet, MS teams, 10+", so it reaches platforms Fathom doesn't. It also lists a mobile app for Android and iOS, a desktop app, and a Chrome extension that records "without Fireflies bot". Transcription covers "100+ languages", with Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian and many others in beta.

Prices (checked 2026-10-02): Free at $0, with 400 minutes of storage per team. Pro is $18 a seat monthly or $10 billed annually, Business $29 or $19, and Enterprise $39 a seat, annual only. Advanced AI tools run on a pool of AI credits. Our Fireflies alternatives guide covers how its bot-free modes work.

Best for: teams whose customers meet on more than the big three video platforms.

3. Otter.ai: for Android and iPhone in one plan

Otter's pricing page includes mobile apps for iOS and Android on every plan, alongside Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. Transcription is in English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Chinese.

Prices (checked 2026-10-02): Basic is free with 300 monthly transcription minutes and 30 minutes per conversation. Pro is $16.99 a month or $8.33 a month billed annually. Business is $30 a user, or $19.99 billed annually. For a deeper look, see our Otter.ai alternatives guide.

Best for: a single tool that covers video calls and the occasional in-person meeting on either phone platform.

4. Granola: for bot-free notes inside any meeting app

Granola's mobile help page explains that on macOS it "captures system audio, so it works inside any meeting app". That means Webex, a Slack huddle or a browser call all work the same way. Its iPhone and Android apps take notes in person, and on iOS it can take notes on outbound phone calls made through its built-in dialer.

Prices (checked 2026-10-02): Basic is $0 with "limited meeting history". Business is $14 per user per month, and Enterprise $35. The pricing page lists bot-free, device-audio capture on every plan and multi-language support. Our Granola alternatives post covers who it suits.

Best for: desk-based people on many different call platforms who don't want any bot.

5. Jamie: for bot-free capture with EU hosting

Jamie's homepage says it "works across Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or any other online platform" without a bot. It also "captures in-person meetings from your laptop or your phone". The site offers downloads for Mac, Windows and iPhone.

Prices (checked 2026-10-02, in euros): Free is €0 with 10 AI notes a month and a 30-minute meeting limit. Plus is €21 a month billed annually, with 20 AI notes a month. The pricing page lists notes and transcripts in 99+ languages and EU hosting on every plan.

Which Fathom alternative fits your week

Dana, from the start of this guide, kept Fathom. Most of her calls are still on Zoom, and its free plan suits her. She added ParrotNotes for site walks and the architect's office: she records on her phone, and the follow-up email is drafted before she's back in the van. Her Webex calls she now takes from the laptop with the phone on the desk beside her.

Tom runs a six-person team of field engineers, half on Android (a composite). Fathom's in-person capture would cover only the iPhone half. He moved the team to one phone app so every visit ends with notes in the same format, and kept a video notetaker for the few scheduled calls.

Lucía is a consultant in Bogotá (also a composite) whose clients move between Spanish and English mid-meeting. She needed a transcript her English-speaking partner could read. A tool that transcribes and translates in one step fixed that, without a separate translation pass.

Whatever you choose, ask before you record. Bot-free tools change what people see, not what the law requires, and some US states require everyone's consent. Our guide to one-party consent states has the state-by-state rules. Then send the recap the same day: our template for a follow-up email after a sales call helps there.

The bottom line

Fathom is a strong choice for Zoom, Google Meet and Teams, and it now records in person on an iPhone. It stops at Webex and other platforms, phone calls, Android, Chromebooks and Linux, and it transcribes 38 languages.

  • Choose ParrotNotes for meetings in a room, on iPhone or Android, in 99+ languages.
  • Choose Fireflies.ai for Webex and other platforms beyond the big three.
  • Choose Otter.ai for one plan across video calls and both phone platforms.
  • Choose Granola for bot-free notes inside any meeting app on your desktop.
  • Choose Jamie for any-platform capture with EU hosting.

Many people don't replace Fathom at all. They pair it with a phone app for the meetings it can't reach. If those are mostly across a table, download ParrotNotes free. You get 100 minutes a month, an AI summary on every recording, and no bot to explain.
