Words to Pages Calculator
Work out how many pages a word count fills, or how many words fit on a page, by font, font size and line spacing. Type a word count or paste your text, pick the font and spacing your assignment, RFP or publisher asks for, and see the pages on US Letter or A4.

How the page count is worked out
Words per page = words per line × lines per page. Most words-to-pages tools use one rule of thumb for every font. This one measured it: we set about 23,000 words of real English prose (and similar German and Spanish samples) in each of the seven fonts with the font's own letter widths, broke the lines the way a word processor does, and counted the words per line, the short last line of every paragraph included.
Lines per page come from the page: the text area left inside the margins divided by the line height. Single spacing is the line height built into the font file; 1.15, 1.5 and double multiply it. On US Letter with 1-inch margins, Times New Roman at 12 pt gives 46 lines single spaced and 23 double spaced.
How many pages is 1,000 words?
In Times New Roman 12 pt on US Letter with 1-inch margins, 1,000 words fill about 1.6 pages single spaced (about 625 words a page), 2.4 pages at 1.5 spacing (420 words a page) and 3.2 pages double spaced (315 words a page).
Going the other way: a 5-page limit in that setup takes about 3,125 words single spaced or 1,565 words double spaced. Use the Pages to words tab for your own limit.
Single vs double spacing
Double spacing doubles the line height, so a page holds half the lines and close to half the words: 46 lines become 23 in Times New Roman 12 pt. Spacing of 1.5 sits in between, at 31 lines. That is why a 1,000-word essay goes from 1.6 pages to 3.2 when the assignment asks for double spacing.
Does the font matter?
Yes, more than most people expect. At 12 pt, single spaced on US Letter, the same 1,000 words take about 1.6 pages in Times New Roman, 1.7 in Calibri, 1.8 in Arial, 2.1 in Verdana and 2.3 in Courier New. Times New Roman is narrow; Verdana and Courier New are wide, and Courier New gives every letter the same width.
The table under the calculator lists all seven fonts for the size and spacing you chose, so you can see the difference for your own word count.
A4 vs US Letter
A4 (210 × 297 mm) is a little narrower and taller than US Letter (8.5 × 11 in). With 2.5 cm margins, A4 fits 50 lines of Times New Roman 12 pt single spaced against 46 on Letter, so 1,000 words come to about 1.5 pages instead of 1.6.
Page counts are estimates for running text with no space between paragraphs, no headings and no indents. Headings, lists, tables, short paragraphs, long words and extra space after paragraphs all add pages, so leave a margin when a page limit is strict.

Write the report from notes you already have
Proposals and reports usually start from what was said in a meeting or on a call. Record it with ParrotNotes and you get the transcript and summary, so the facts you write from are already written down.
