How do you calculate quota attainment?

Divide what you have closed by your quota for the period. 500,000 closed against a 1,200,000 annual quota is 41.7%. To see where you are heading, divide what you have closed by the months elapsed and multiply by the months in the period: 500,000 in 5 months is a pace of 1,200,000 over 12, which is 100% of quota, with 700,000 still to close.

How is OTE worked out from attainment?

On-target earnings are base salary plus the variable pay you earn at 100% of quota, so variable pay at target is OTE minus base. On a linear plan you earn that variable pay in proportion to attainment: with a 60,000 base and 120,000 OTE, 80% attainment earns 48,000 of the 60,000 variable, for 108,000 in total. Many plans add accelerators above 100%, thresholds or caps, which this page does not model.

What is a typical quota attainment?

It varies a lot by company, market and how aggressively quotas are set, so treat any single benchmark with care. What matters more is your own trend: whether your pace is rising or falling month by month, and how far the gap is from what your pipeline can realistically close.

What should I do with the number?

If the pace is below quota, the gap tells you how much you need to close from here, and dividing it by the months left gives a monthly target. Managers can use the same inputs to check whether a quota and OTE are consistent with each other before a plan goes out. The numbers leading the result are the calls and meetings behind each deal.
