Sales Growth Calculator
Work out sales growth between two periods, the compound annual growth rate over several years, the annual run rate and the growth needed to hit a target. Every result shows the working, and a month or quarter comparison is also shown as a yearly rate.
Your numbers
A month or quarter comparison also shows the change as a yearly rate.

Sales growth between two periods
Sales growth is the change in sales divided by the earlier period's sales: (current − prior) ÷ prior × 100. It is the same percent change the US Bureau of Labor Statistics uses for the Consumer Price Index. A fall shows as a negative number, and from a prior period of zero there is no percentage, only the amount.
Compare like with like. This year against last year, or this quarter against the same quarter last year, takes the season out. Month over month and quarter over quarter react faster, and the calculator also shows that change compounded to a yearly rate with the Bureau of Economic Analysis formula for annual rates: (current ÷ prior)^12 − 1 for a month, ^4 for a quarter. A 5% month is 79.6% a year if it kept going, which is a reason to treat a single strong month with care.
CAGR: growth over several years
The compound annual growth rate is the steady yearly rate that would take sales from the first year to the last: (last ÷ first)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. It is BEA's average annual growth formula with yearly data. Count the years between the two figures, not the number of figures: 2021 to 2025 is 4 years.
CAGR smooths over the path. A territory that went 500, 400, 700, 800 has the same CAGR as one that grew a little every year. For the year-by-year story, run each pair of years through the first mode.
Annual run rate from part of the year
The run rate scales what you have sold so far to a full year: sales ÷ periods passed × periods in a year, with 12 months, 4 quarters, 52 weeks or 365 days (change it to 366 in a leap year). With an annual target it also shows the run rate as a percentage of the target and the gap in money.
It is a straight line through the year so far. If your business is seasonal, if one large deal landed early, or if most deals close in the last quarter, the run rate will be off. The sales forecast calculator works from the open pipeline instead, and the quota calculator turns your pace into attainment and on-target earnings.
Growth needed to reach a target
Solve the compound growth formula for the rate: (target ÷ today)^(1 ÷ periods) − 1. Pick whether each period is a year, a quarter or a month; for months and quarters the page also shows the rate over a year. The even step beside it is the same amount added every period, which is how many plans are written and which asks for a smaller percentage each period.
How this differs from a percentage increase calculator
The percentage increase calculator is general percentage maths: the change between any two numbers, adding or taking off a percentage, the value before a change. This page is built around sales periods: it labels the periods, annualizes a month or quarter comparison, projects a run rate from a part of the year and compares it with a target, and works out the rate a target needs.
For sales managers and reps
A growth number starts the pipeline review; it does not finish it. When a territory is up 15% or running 10% behind target, the useful part is what comes next: which accounts drove it, which deals slipped, what each rep commits to before the next review. Write those commitments down in the meeting, with a name and a date beside each one.
Sources, each read on 2026-10-31. Results are arithmetic on your own numbers, not a forecast:
- US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Calculating percent changes (CPI fact sheet): subtract, divide by the earlier value, multiply by 100
- US Bureau of Economic Analysis, How is average annual growth calculated? (the compound formula with periodicity m and n periods)

The number starts the pipeline review
Growth and run rate tell you where the territory stands; the review decides what happens next. Record the pipeline review in ParrotNotes and you get a transcript, a summary and the action items, so every rep's commitments are written down before the next one.
