Lena runs operations at a five-person design agency. The whole studio already lives in Notion on the Plus plan, and two of her designers want Granola because a friend swears by it. Owen is a solo consultant who spends his day on Zoom and keeps his notes in Google Docs. He doesn't use Notion at all.
(Both are composites, not real people.)
Both of them searched Granola vs Notion this week. The honest answer is different for each, and it depends less on features than on what you already pay for.
Granola is a standalone AI notepad that listens to your computer during calls. Notion AI Meeting Notes is a block inside a Notion page that does much the same job, as long as your workspace is on the right plan. This comparison uses each vendor's own pricing page and help center as they read on October 29, 2026. It covers how each captures a meeting, what it costs from the plan you're on today, where the notes end up, and a quick way to choose.
A disclosure: ParrotNotes publishes this blog and appears in one section near the end, for meetings that happen in a room rather than on a screen. If that's most of your week, you can try ParrotNotes free at your next customer meeting.
Granola vs Notion at a glance
Pick Granola if you want a private notepad for video calls that works whatever your team uses for docs. Pick Notion AI Meeting Notes if your team already runs on Notion and is on the Business plan, or is ready to move to it. Granola Business is $14 a user a month. Notion's meeting notes come with Business at $20 a seat a month, which also buys Notion AI across the workspace.
| Granola | Notion AI Meeting Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A standalone notepad app | A block on a Notion page |
| Free plan | Basic: meeting notes with 30 days of history | Free and Plus: a "Limited Trial" |
| Plan you need for full use | Business, $14 a user a month | Business, $20 a seat a month, or Enterprise |
| Meeting bot | None | None on desktop |
| Video calls | Desktop app hears system audio and mic | Desktop app hears system audio and mic |
| Transcription languages | 31 on desktop, 17 on mobile | 16 |
| Audio kept | None; Granola "does not record or save audio" | Temporary copy deleted after processing; uploaded files kept |
| Phone app | iOS and Android, for in-person meetings | Mobile app, microphone only |
| Where notes live | Granola, with sharing to Notion and others on Business | On the Notion page where you started it |

How each one captures a meeting
On a video call from a laptop, the two work the same way. Neither sends a bot into the call.
Granola's transcription article says it "runs only on your computer and uses your system audio and microphone." It adds: "There is no meeting bot." Notion's help center says the desktop app records your microphone and your computer's system audio, so it hears both sides of a call. Our guide to AI meeting notes without a bot explains why that matters to the people on the other end.
The differences show up away from the desktop.
| Granola | Notion AI Meeting Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop (Mac and Windows) | System audio and mic; speaker names from Zoom, Meet and Teams, otherwise "Me" and "Them" | System audio and mic; app 4.7.0 or later, macOS 13 or later |
| Browser | View and edit notes only; the web "cannot capture or transcribe meetings" | Microphone only; "System audio won't be captured" |
| Phone | In-person meetings, and phone calls on iPhone; can't transcribe video calls | Phone microphone only; best for in-person meetings |
| Upload a recording | Not offered | AAC, M4A, MP3 or WAV; not MOV, MP4 or Loom |
| When it stops | When the call ends, after 15 minutes without audio, or when the computer sleeps | When you press Stop; 10 hours per user per day |

The way you work during the call differs too. In Granola you type rough notes into a private notepad and it fills them out when the meeting ends. Nothing is shared until you share it.
In Notion the transcript and summary land on the page you started from, and anyone with access to that page can see them. Notion's summary comes in formats you choose (Auto, sales call, standup or team meeting, or your own instructions), with citations that link each line back to the transcript.
Granola vs Notion pricing: what you actually pay for
The two price very differently. Granola sells a meeting notes app. Notion sells a workspace, and meeting notes are one part of its Business plan.
| Granola plan | Price | Notion plan | Price (per seat, monthly billing) | AI Meeting Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $0 | Free | $0 | "Limited Trial" |
| Business | $14 per user a month | Plus | $10 a month | "Limited Trial" |
| Enterprise | $35 per user a month | Business | $20 a month | Included |
| Enterprise | Custom | Included |
Prices from granola.ai/pricing and notion.com/pricing, checked October 29, 2026. Granola's page shows monthly prices only. Notion's page says "Save up to 20% with yearly" but shows no yearly figures.
Granola Basic limits time, not usage: the pricing page lists 30 days of meeting history, chat on an automatically chosen model ("Auto only") and a Slack integration. Business removes the history limit and adds model selection, pre-meeting briefs, follow-up emails, API access and the integrations with Notion, HubSpot, Attio, Affinity and Zapier. Enterprise adds single sign-on, Salesforce and admin controls. Our Granola AI pricing guide covers each plan in depth.
Notion is blunter. Its help center says "You must be on Notion's Business or Enterprise Plan to use AI Meeting Notes." The pricing page shows a "Limited Trial" on Free and Plus, without saying how big the trial is. Business also brings Notion Agent and the rest of Notion AI. If you'd pay for that anyway, the meeting notes cost nothing extra.
Year-one cost from the plan you're already on
This is where most Granola vs Notion comparisons stop short. The cheaper option depends on your starting point, so here are five, priced at the standard monthly rates on October 29, 2026. "Extra" is what you'd add to what you pay now.
| Starting point | Option | Extra in year one | What you get or give up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo, no Notion | Granola Basic | $0 | Notes older than 30 days hidden until you upgrade |
| Granola Business | $168 | Unlimited history and integrations | |
| Notion Business, 1 seat | $240 | A full workspace with Notion AI | |
| Team of 5, no Notion | Granola Business | $840 | Meeting notes only |
| Notion Business | $1,200 | Workspace, Notion AI and meeting notes | |
| Team of 5 on Notion Free | Granola Business | $840 | Notion stays at $0 |
| Move to Notion Business | $1,200 | Workspace upgrade plus meeting notes | |
| Team of 5 on Notion Plus ($600 a year now) | Add Granola Business | $840 | Two subscriptions: $1,440 a year in total |
| Move to Notion Business | $600 | One subscription: $1,200 a year in total | |
| Team of 5 on Notion Business | Notion AI Meeting Notes | $0 | Already included |
| Add Granola Business | $840 | A second notes app |
Computed from the list prices: Granola Business $14 × 12 = $168 per user; Notion Business $20 × 12 = $240 per seat; Notion Plus to Business adds $10 × 12 = $120 per seat. Notion's yearly billing can lower its figures by up to 20%, which only widens Notion's lead where it already leads.
The pattern is simple. If your team is on Notion Plus or Business, Notion is the cheaper way to get meeting notes. If you don't use Notion, or it's on the Free plan, Granola Business costs less than upgrading. Solo users without Notion can start on Granola Basic for $0, as long as 30 days of history is enough.
Lena's answer: her studio pays $600 a year for Plus. Adding Granola Business for all five would add $840. Moving to Business adds $600 and puts every client call on the project page her team already uses. She runs Notion's limited trial on two weekly client calls first, then upgrades.
Owen's answer: he has no Notion workspace and no plans for one. Granola Basic costs him nothing, and he moves to Business at $168 a year the day he needs notes older than a month.
Where the notes end up: using Granola with Notion
Some teams want both: Granola's private notepad during the call, and the finished notes in Notion afterwards. That works, with limits that Granola's own Notion article spells out.
- It's on Business. The pricing page lists the Notion integration on Business and Enterprise, not on Basic.
- It sends enhanced notes, one at a time. You share each note from its menu, and the article states: "Notes are not pushed to Notion automatically." There is no bulk sync.
- Notes go to Granola's own database. Connecting creates a dedicated database in your Notion workspace. You can't pick a different page or database, so to put a note on a project page you link to it from there.
- Automation needs Zapier. A Zap with the "Note Added to Granola Folder" trigger can send notes automatically.
- It needs the desktop app. Granola's mobile guide says "Sharing to Notion, Slack, HubSpot, and other integrations requires the desktop app."
For a team of five that's $840 a year on top of the Notion bill. It makes sense when the private-notepad style is the point, or when some people on the team don't use Notion. If everyone lives in Notion already, the native block skips the extra step.
Languages, speakers, offline and audio
These rows decide the choice for anyone outside a single-language, desktop-only week.
| Granola | Notion AI Meeting Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Transcription languages | 31 on desktop, 17 on mobile | 16 |
| Switching language mid-meeting | On desktop, from the meeting controls; mobile picks one language per meeting | Not described in the help center |
| Translation | None built in; you can ask chat to translate quotes | Not described |
| Speaker labels | Names from Zoom, Meet and Teams; mobile can recognize speakers in person | English only; best on desktop one-on-one calls |
| Offline | No offline mode described | "Not currently supported while offline" |
| Audio you can replay | None saved | Local audio storage off by default; when on, the 10 most recent recordings stay on your device |

Granola covers nearly twice as many languages on desktop, including Hindi, Arabic, Italian and Turkish, which aren't on Notion's list. Notion has the more detailed privacy documentation, with stated deletion windows for audio. Our Notion AI Meeting Notes guide covers it in detail, along with a 10-question fit test. For more on Granola alone, read our Granola AI review.
Whichever you choose, ask before you record. A missing bot doesn't remove the need for consent, and Notion builds consent messages into the flow for that reason. Our overview of one-party consent states covers the US basics. This isn't legal advice.
Which one to use
Sort last week's meetings into the rows below before you pay for anything.
| Your situation | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your team is on Notion Plus or Business | Notion AI Meeting Notes | Cheaper from where you are, and notes land on the project page |
| You don't use Notion, or it's on Free | Granola | $14 a user beats a workspace upgrade |
| You want private notes you edit before anyone sees them | Granola | Nothing is shared until you share it |
| You upload recordings from other devices | Notion | Accepts AAC, M4A, MP3 and WAV |
| Calls in Hindi, Arabic, Italian or Turkish | Granola, on desktop | 31 desktop languages against 16 |
| Speaker labels in a language other than English | Granola | Notion's labels are English only |
| Mostly in person, or offline, or across two languages in one room | A phone-first app such as ParrotNotes | Built for the room, with translation |
If Otter or Fireflies are also on your list, see Granola vs Otter and Granola vs Fireflies.
If your meetings happen in a room: ParrotNotes
Granola and Notion are both at their best on a laptop during a video call. Carmen's week doesn't look like that. She sells commercial cleaning contracts, meets facility managers in their offices and on site walks, and half the conversations switch between Spanish and English. Her laptop stays in the car.
(She's a composite too.)
For Carmen, neither tool's phone mode is a full answer. Notion's mobile app records the phone's microphone only, its speaker labels are English only and unreliable in a shared room, and it doesn't work offline. Granola's phone app picks one language per meeting.
That's the job ParrotNotes is built for. Open the app on your phone, tap record and set it on the table, with everyone's permission. When you stop, you get a transcript, a summary, the action items and a drafted follow-up email. Recording works offline; transcription and the AI run once you're back on a connection.
To be clear about scope: ParrotNotes records the room and your side of a phone call. It doesn't capture Zoom, Meet or Teams audio, so it isn't a replacement for either tool on video calls.
| Granola | Notion AI Meeting Notes | ParrotNotes | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Built around | A laptop hearing system audio | A Notion page, with desktop capture | Conversations in any room, on your phone |
| Meeting bot | None | None on desktop | None |
| Transcription languages | 31 desktop, 17 mobile | 16 | 99+ (Pro) |
| Two languages in one phone recording | Mobile picks one language | Not described | Handled in one recording (Pro) |
| Offline | No offline mode described | Not supported | Records offline; transcribes when connected |
| Sales frameworks | Custom templates | A "sales call" summary format | BANT, MEDDIC and SPIN on Free's 5 AI recordings and every Pro recording |
| Price for one person | $0 Basic, or $14 a month | Business, $20 a seat a month | $0 Free, or Pro at $19.99 a month ($14.99 billed annually) |
Granola and Notion facts from their own pages on October 29, 2026; ParrotNotes facts from parrotnotes.app/pricing.
ParrotNotes Free gives you 100 minutes of recording a month (up to 30 minutes per recording), an AI summary on every recording, and 5 AI-powered recordings a month with action items and sales frameworks. Pro is $19.99 a month, or $14.99 a month billed annually, with 3,000 minutes a month, recordings up to 3 hours, multilingual transcription and translation in 99+ languages, and speaker identification. It runs on iOS, Android and macOS.
Carmen keeps Notion for her team's proposals and records each site walk on her phone. The follow-up email is drafted before she reaches the parking lot. Our ParrotNotes vs Granola comparison goes through that split situation by situation, and our roundup of the best AI note taker for in-person meetings covers the wider field.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Granola or Notion AI Meeting Notes cheaper?
It depends on your current plan. If your team already pays for Notion Business, meeting notes cost nothing extra. From Notion Plus, moving to Business adds $10 a seat a month, less than Granola Business at $14 a user. Without Notion, or on its Free plan, Granola is cheaper, and Basic is $0 with 30 days of history. Prices were checked on October 29, 2026.
Do Granola and Notion AI Meeting Notes use a meeting bot?
No. Both desktop apps record your microphone and your computer's system audio, so they hear both sides of a video call without a bot joining. Notion's browser and mobile versions record the microphone only, and Granola's phone app can't transcribe video calls.
Can Granola send meeting notes to Notion?
Yes, on Granola's Business or Enterprise plan. From the desktop app you send each enhanced note to a dedicated Granola database in your Notion workspace. Granola's help center says notes are not pushed automatically, there's no bulk sync, and automatic sending needs Zapier.
Which supports more languages, Granola or Notion?
Granola. Its help center lists 31 transcription languages on desktop and 17 on mobile. Notion's lists 16, with speaker labels in English only. ParrotNotes Pro transcribes 99+ languages and can translate the transcript into the language you choose.
Does Notion AI Meeting Notes work on the free plan?
Only as a trial. Notion's pricing page shows a "Limited Trial" of meeting notes on Free and Plus, and its help center says you must be on Business or Enterprise to use the feature. The size of the trial is not stated.
