MP4, WebM or MPEG up to 10 minutes; audio files work too

    How video transcription works

From a video file to text you can read and search, in three steps.

    1. 1

      Drop in the video

Drag an MP4, WebM or MPEG file up to 10 minutes into the box, or click to choose it. Pick the language spoken in the video, or leave it on Auto-detect.

    2. 2

      Sign in and start

Sign in with Google, Apple or a one-time email code. The video's sound track is transcribed by the same pipeline the ParrotNotes app uses, and the transcript is saved to your free account.

    3. 3

      Read the transcript

The text appears on the page with a short summary next to it. Copy the part you need, or send the whole transcript with a share link.

More on this in our guides to recording a meeting on an iPhone and podcast transcription.

Get the video as a file

The converter needs the video as a file on your device. Here is where the common ones come from.

    A video from your phone

    1. iPhone: open Photos, select the video, tap Share and choose Save to Files, or AirDrop it to your Mac.
    2. Android: open your gallery or Files app, select the video and share it to Drive or your downloads.
    3. Drop the file here; if it ends in .mov, convert it first (see the note).

If your file ends in .mov, this converter will not take it: run it through the free MOV to MP3 Converter in your browser and upload the MP3 instead. The words are in the sound track, and the MP3 is far smaller than the video.

A Zoom, Teams or Meet recording

    1. Download the recording from the meeting app or its cloud page to your computer.
    2. If there is a separate audio file (M4A), use that; otherwise the MP4 video works.
    3. Trim it to 10 minutes or less if the meeting ran longer, then upload it.

A screen recording or a webinar replay

    1. Save the recording as MP4 or WebM when your recorder gives you the choice.
    2. A webinar replay you downloaded is usually an MP4 already.
    3. Upload it here; for a replay longer than 10 minutes, see the last question in the FAQ.

Accepted files: MP4, WebM and MPEG video, plus MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG and MPGA audio, up to 10 minutes and 100 MB each. MOV and AVI are not accepted.

    What you get

Text you can read, search and pass on, not a wall of captions.

    • Transcript

Punctuated text of everything said in the video, in the language you picked or the one Auto-detect finds.

    • Summary

A short written summary of the video sits next to the full transcript.

    • Share link

Send the transcript to a colleague or a client with one link; they do not need an account.

    • Copy as text

Paste the transcript into a document, an email, your CRM or your notes.

    Videos people transcribe here

    • A phone video of a product demo, a plant tour or a site walkthrough
    • A recorded webinar or a training session
    • A screen recording of a call or a product walkthrough
    • A video a customer or a colleague sent instead of a voice note
    • A short interview or lecture clip for an article or your notes
    • A how-to video you want as written steps
