Audio Waveform Generator
Turn an audio file into a waveform image for a podcast cover, a social post, a website or print. Choose a clip, a style, your colours and the size, then download a PNG or an SVG. A sound wave image generator that works on the recording you already have.
Drop your recording here or click to browse
MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, WEBM or MP4, up to 100 MB and 30 minutes.
The file is read in your browser and is not uploaded.
How to make a waveform image from audio
Three steps, in your browser.
- 1
Drop the recording
MP3, M4A from an iPhone, WAV, FLAC and other common formats, up to 100 MB and 30 minutes. The page reads the file and shows its waveform.
- 2
Pick the clip and the look
Drag the handles to draw only part of the recording, then choose bars, rounded bars, a line or a mirrored wave, the bar width and gap, your colours and the image size.
- 3
Download PNG or SVG
The preview is the image you get. Save a PNG (with or without a background) or an SVG that stays sharp at any size.
Size presets
Pick a preset or set your own width and height, up to 4,096 pixels a side.
| Preset | Pixels | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Social link | 1200 × 628 | Link previews and posts in a feed |
| Square | 1080 × 1080 | Square posts and podcast artwork layers |
| HD | 1920 × 1080 | Slides, video thumbnails, a 16:9 background |
| Banner | 3000 × 600 | Website headers and wide banners |
Styles and settings
Four styles
Bars and rounded bars centred on a line, a single zigzag line, or mirrored bars with a fainter reflection underneath.
Peak or RMS
Peak takes the loudest sample in each bar, so the image looks sharp and spiky. RMS (root mean square) averages the energy, so it looks smoother and closer to how loud it sounds.
Normalise
On by default: the loudest bar fills the height, so a quiet recording still makes a full image. Turn it off to keep the real level. Silence stays a thin flat line.
Transparent PNG or SVG
Tick transparent background to lay the waveform over a cover photo or a coloured design. SVG files open in Figma, Illustrator, Inkscape and a browser.
Tips for a good waveform image
Choose a short clip
A whole hour squeezed into 1,200 pixels looks like a solid block. A 10 to 60 second clip, such as a quote or the opening line, shows the shape of speech.
Wider bars for small screens
On a phone feed thin bars blur together. Use 6 px bars with a 4 px gap or wider, and fewer bars, for images that will be seen small.
SVG for print and the web
Use SVG for a website header or anything printed; use PNG where a platform only takes images, such as most social apps.
Match your brand
Set the waveform to your brand colour and the background to the cover's colour, or go transparent and place it in your design tool.

A waveform shows how a recording sounds, not what is in it. ParrotNotes records the interview, episode or meeting on your phone and gives you the transcript and a summary, free for 100 minutes of recording a month.
