How to Record Calls on Samsung

To record a call on a Samsung Galaxy, use the Phone app that came with it. During the call, tap Record (on some models, tap the three-dot menu, then Record call). To record every call, go to Phone > three dots > Settings > Record calls > Auto record calls, where your region offers it.

That's Samsung call recording in two lines. It's free, it's built in, and the other person hears a notice when it starts.

Dana runs a roofing crew in Phoenix. A homeowner calls at 7:15 AM with the address, the gate code, two leak spots and a budget. Dana is on a ladder. By lunch she remembers the address and one leak. (Dana is an illustration, not a real customer.)

This guide shows how to record a call on your Galaxy, where the file goes, how to get a transcript and summary with Galaxy AI, and how to turn call recording off. Every menu path comes from Samsung's own support pages, checked on November 8, 2026. Where those pages disagree by country, you'll see it in one table.

How to record a call on Samsung

Recording a call on Samsung takes one tap. Samsung's US help page says it works in the Samsung Phone app on Galaxy phones with One UI 7.0 or higher (Android 15). Here are the steps:

  1. Open the Phone app and make or answer the call.
  2. Tap the Record icon. You may need to tap More first. On some models it's the three-dot menu, then Record call.
  3. Accept the terms the first time you use it.
  4. Tap Record again to stop, or hang up. Recording ends with the call.

Everyone on the call hears an audio notification when recording starts and when it stops. One catch from Samsung: people added later to a group call aren't notified. Tell them yourself.

Samsung's UK page adds a detail that saves a lot of wasted downloads. Two-way call recording only works in the default Samsung Phone app. A recorder app from the Play Store usually can't hear the other side. Our guide to recording a phone call on Android explains why.

Samsung call recording: auto record every call

Samsung's Saudi Arabia page (updated October 21, 2026) gives the steps:

  1. Open the Phone app and tap the three dots (More options).
  2. Tap Settings > Record calls > Auto record calls.
  3. Turn the switch on and tap Confirm to accept the terms.
  4. Choose All calls, Unsaved numbers or Specific numbers.

Not seeing it? You may not be doing anything wrong.

Samsung's US page doesn't list Auto record calls at all, only manual recording. When US Galaxy phones first got recording with One UI 7, 9to5Google reported that it had to be started by hand on every call. Recording had been "a hit-or-miss feature for smartphones sold in the US due to legal reasons." So the menu you see depends on where your phone was sold.

Where Samsung call recordings are saved

You have three ways in. All three come from Samsung's support pages:

  • Phone app: three dots > Settings > Record calls > Recorded calls.
  • Recents: a small microphone icon marks a recorded call. Tap the call, then View recording and transcript.
  • Voice Recorder app: Menu > Call recordings. Our Samsung Voice Recorder guide covers that app in depth.

You can also browse the files in My Files. Samsung's UK page says My Files gives access to call recordings, but it doesn't name the folder, and Samsung says folder names vary by model. If you can't find the file, search My Files by the date of the call.

To keep a recording, press and hold it, tap Share and send it to email, Quick Share or cloud storage. A recording that only lives on your phone goes when the phone does.

Turn on call transcripts and summaries with Galaxy AI

Recording gives you audio. Galaxy AI's Transcript assist turns it into text. The path is Phone > three dots > Settings > Record calls > Transcript assist. Samsung's US page lists these options:

  • Summarize transcripts: makes summaries.
  • Process data only on the device: keeps processing on the phone.
  • Auto detect language and Transcription language.
  • Auto transcribe recorded calls: transcribes every recorded call.
  • Language packs for transcription and translation: download the languages you need.
  • Show notification after recording.

To read it, open the call in Recents and tap View recording and transcript. Then tap Summarize at the top for a short summary. Samsung's India call transcript page (updated October 23, 2026) adds that you need to be signed in to a Samsung account and a Google account, and that "accuracy of results may vary."

Two limits matter. Samsung's US page says the Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G, A26 5G and A17 5G don't get transcripts and summaries, and you need an internet connection plus a Samsung account. It also says Galaxy AI's basic features are free, while enhanced Samsung AI features may have different terms and fees.

Turning on auto transcribe doesn't record calls for you. Recording still has to be on, by hand or with auto record.

What Samsung's support pages say, country by country

Samsung publishes a support page per country, and they don't match. We read four of them on November 8, 2026. Here's what each one says:

Samsung pageAuto record optionTranscripts and summariesOther limits it namesWhere to find recordings
USNot mentionedYes, via Transcript assist; not on A56, A36, A26, A17 5GOne UI 7.0+; new group-call members not notifiedRecorded calls; Voice Recorder
Saudi Arabia (Oct 21, 2026)Yes: all calls, unsaved numbers, specific numbersNot coveredRegion, model, One UI version, network or carrierRecorded calls
India (Jul 10, 2026)Not mentionedYes, on its separate call transcript page"Does not work in Wi-Fi calling"Audio library
UK (Mar 16, 2026)Saves automatically when onNot coveredTwo-way recording only in Samsung's Phone appRecorded calls; Voice Recorder > Call recordings; My Files

The pattern: the steps are the same everywhere, but which options you get depends on your country, your model and your One UI version. Check the page for the country your phone was sold in.

Call recording option not showing on Samsung?

When the call recording option is not showing on your Samsung, work down this list. Each item comes from one of the pages above.

  1. Update One UI. Settings > Software update. The US page needs One UI 7.0 or higher.
  2. Use the Samsung Phone app. If Google's Phone app or another dialer is your default, Samsung's Record button won't be there.
  3. Turn off Wi-Fi calling for the call. Samsung India says recording doesn't work with it.
  4. Check the Record calls menu. Samsung's Hong Kong page (updated May 28, 2026) notes that "if the call recording feature is turned off, call recording may not be available during calls." Open Phone > three dots > Settings > Record calls and see what's offered there.
  5. Accept that region and carrier can block it. The Saudi page says network or carrier restrictions can stop the feature, and some countries limit recording.

Still nothing? Use a second device. Put the call on speaker and record the room on a tablet or laptop, with everyone's permission.

How to turn off call recording on Samsung

Keisha manages rental units in Atlanta. She turned on Auto record calls for All calls to catch tenant repair requests, and two weeks later her phone had 140 recordings of calls with her sister and her dentist. (Keisha is an illustration.) Here's how to undo that:

  • Stop auto record: Phone > three dots > Settings > Record calls > Auto record calls, and turn the switch off. Or change it to Specific numbers, so only the calls you choose get recorded.
  • Stop one recording: tap Record again during the call.
  • Delete old recordings: under Record calls, Samsung's US page points to Delete old recordings. You can also delete single files from Recorded calls.
  • Stop auto transcripts: under Transcript assist, turn off Auto transcribe recorded calls.

Two things you can't do. Samsung's pages don't describe any setting to hide the Record button, and owners asking for one on Samsung's US Community forum found none. And there's no supported way to silence the notice the other person hears. That notice is the point: people deserve to know they're being recorded.

Turn a Samsung call recording into notes

A recording you never replay doesn't do much. Galaxy AI gives you a transcript and a short summary on supported models. If you need more, like action items, a follow-up email, or a transcript on an A-series phone that doesn't get Transcript assist, import the file into another app.

That's where ParrotNotes fits on your Galaxy. To be clear: it doesn't record phone calls. Samsung's Phone app does that part.

ParrotNotes takes the audio file you share from Recorded calls and gives you a transcript, a summary, key points and action items. It also records in-person conversations and long meetings directly.

As of November 2026, the free plan includes 100 minutes of recording a month, three audio imports a month, and an AI summary on every recording. Pro is $19.99 a month, or $14.99 a month billed annually, with 3,000 minutes a month and transcription in 99+ languages. Transcription needs an internet connection.

Only need text for one short call? The free audio to text tool transcribes a file up to 10 minutes long.

Back to Dana in Phoenix. The next time the homeowner calls, she says, "Mind if I record this so I get the details right?" He says yes, and she taps Record. At lunch she shares the file to ParrotNotes and gets the gate code, both leak spots and the budget as action items, then texts him a confirmation. If you want the same routine, download ParrotNotes free and try it on your next recorded call.

Samsung's notice tells the other person the call is being recorded. Whether that's enough under the law where you both are is a separate question. This article is general information, not legal advice.

In the US, the federal rule (18 U.S.C. 2511) lets you record a call you're part of, but some states require everyone on the call to agree. Our guide to one-party consent states lists every state's rule and what to do when callers are in different states. Outside the US, check your country's rules and your employer's policy.

The habit that works almost everywhere: ask out loud at the start, and let the yes be the first thing on the recording. Never record someone who doesn't know.

Conclusion

Samsung call recording, in short:

  • Record from the Samsung Phone app: tap Record during the call. It's free and both sides hear a notice.
  • Auto record lives under Settings > Record calls, where your region offers it.
  • Find recordings in Recorded calls, Recents or Voice Recorder, and share the ones you need to keep.
  • Turn it off in the same menu. There's no setting to hide the button or silence the notice.
  • Ask first, every time.

On an iPhone too? See our guide to recording phone calls on iPhone. And once you have the recording, download ParrotNotes to turn it into a summary, action items and a follow-up email.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I record a call on my Samsung phone?

Open the Samsung Phone app, make or answer the call, and tap Record. On some models, tap More or the three-dot menu first, then Record call. Tap Record again or hang up to stop. Samsung's US page says this needs One UI 7.0 or higher.

Can Samsung record calls automatically?

In many regions, yes. Go to Phone > three dots > Settings > Record calls > Auto record calls, turn it on, and choose All calls, Unsaved numbers or Specific numbers. Samsung's US page doesn't list this option, so US phones may only record by hand.

Where are call recordings saved on Samsung?

In the Phone app under Settings > Record calls > Recorded calls, in Recents (tap the call, then View recording and transcript), and in the Voice Recorder app under Menu > Call recordings. My Files also has them, in a folder whose name varies by model.

How do I turn off call recording on Samsung?

Does the other person know when I record a call on Samsung?

Yes. Samsung says everyone on the call hears an audio notification when recording starts and stops. People added later to a group call aren't notified, so tell them yourself. A notice isn't the same as legal consent everywhere, so ask first.
