Open Voice Memos, tap the memo, tap the share button and choose Save to Files. Then come back to this page in Safari and pick the file from Files.
AirDrop it to a Mac
From the same share sheet, choose AirDrop and pick your Mac. The memo lands in the Downloads folder, ready to drop onto this page.
Share it by email
Choose Mail in the share sheet and send the memo to yourself. Save the attachment on any computer and drop it here.
On a Mac, use iCloud
Voice Memos syncs through iCloud, so the memo is already in the Voice Memos app on your Mac. Drag it out of the list onto your desktop, or use its share button.

Drag the voice memo onto the converter or click to browse. It reads the length first so a file over the limit is refused before anything is decoded.

Pick a bitrate
128 kbps is the default and sounds fine for speech. Choose 96 for the smallest file, 192 or 320 if the recording has music or you plan to edit it.

Download
The page decodes the memo and writes the MP3 on your device, with a progress bar while it works. Check it in the player, then download it with the same name and an .mp3 ending.

An MP3 that plays anywhere
Old car stereos, Windows media players, email attachments, CRM uploads and audio editors all take MP3. Channels and sample rate follow the source.
No upload
The recording is not uploaded: your browser decodes and re-encodes it on your device. Nothing is stored anywhere when you leave the page.
Your choice of bitrate
96, 128, 192 or 320 kbps. A 10-minute memo at 128 kbps is about 9 MB; at 96 kbps about 7 MB.
Works for other formats too
AAC, MP4 audio, WAV, OGG, WEBM, FLAC and OPUS convert the same way, and an existing MP3 can be re-encoded at a smaller bitrate.
MP3 or M4A?
The .m4a file your iPhone makes is already compact and good quality, and most modern phones, computers and messaging apps play it without complaint. If the memo only needs to go to another iPhone or a Mac, you can send it as it is.
MP3 wins on compatibility. Older players and car stereos, some CRMs and web forms that only accept .mp3, audio editors, podcast tools and email recipients on unfamiliar devices all handle MP3 without a second thought. Converting costs a little quality at the same bitrate, which is rarely audible on speech, and this page lets you pick a higher bitrate if it matters.
